David is an accomplished fiddle, guitar and mandolin player and has become known for his highly expressive playing and unique character he imparts into his performances. He is a sought-after session fiddle player and the past 12 months have seen him playing gigs across Europe and performing the closing song at the Scottish Nationalist Party annual conference.
David’s musical training began at age 8, learning classical violin under the tutorship of Perth Symphony Orchestra Leader Lorna McGovern and attaining grade 7 standard. As his studies progressed he became involved in various classical ensembles in the local area, as well as leading his school orchestra. After the passing of his uncle – influential piper Gordon Duncan – in 2005, David experienced a renewed passion for folk music, becoming active in the traditional music scene and performing fiddle with groups including Tunna and True Gents.
The past 5 years has seen David working on many projects as a music producer, and in working with clients has developed a skill for arrangement and composition of a highly individual style. Recent projects have included the scoring and recording of a layered ‘string orchestra’ for songs with Pop singer Beth Bradson, composition of a theme for a mobile platform video game and being commissioned to write a selection of traditional music for the Scottish Fisheries Museum.
David plays live regularily, and is regularly hired to perform at a variety of events; solo fiddle for corporate events/weddings to traditional music duos to full band performances with groups such as Red Pine Timber Company and Tunna.
